ANGELINE ALVIAR, MIKE RA NAMED HUSKIES ATHLETES OF THE WEEK AFTER TEAMING UP FOR PROVINCIAL GOLD

Mike Ra (Badminton)

Mike Ra teamed up with partner Angeline Alviar to go a perfect 7-0 in mixed doubles play at UTM this weekend, capturing a provincial gold medal in the process. The pair lost only one set during the entirety of round-robin play, going 10-1, before defeating St. Lawrence and Centennial in the semi-finals and finals respectively to earn the title. Ra was also a key piece of the men's team title, the second consecutive season that George Brown's men's team has been crowned best in Ontario.

The CCAA Badminton National Championship begins on Wednesday, March 6 at Dalhousie University. Six Huskies will be competing for the title of Canada's best, including Ra and Alviar in mixed doubles play.

Angeline Alviar (Badminton)

The second piece of the mixed doubles winning duo, Angeline Alviar showed impressive versatility in picking up the gold. In 2018 she joined forces with Yunji Kim to win a women's doubles silver medal at provincials, and this year she shifted disciplines to pick up the top spot in mixed doubles play. Alviar was also a key factor in the women's team earning their second consecutive team title, alongside women's singles champion Anh Hoang. Last year Alviar won a bronze medal at the national championship in women's doubles play.
