GEORGE BROWN OUTSCORES OPPONENTS 23-3 IN DOMINANT HOME STAND

Huskies' Vilela attacks Cambrian defender

George Brown's offensive skills were on display in full form this past weekend in a back-to-back home stand against Cambrian College and Sault College, both visiting Esther Shiner Stadium. The Women recorded 3-0 and 4-1 victories, respectively, while the Men poured on the offense in two dominant 8-1 wins.

The Women displayed a calm and composed demeanor throughout, maintaining much of the ball control and setting the pace of each game. A consistency that Head Coach Leslie Fitzpatrick has been working hard towards, but isn't satisfied with quite yet. "We set a number of team goals and we were able to achieve the main one, which was getting maximum points. For the most part we hit a number of the desired targets, but both games also served to illuminate the areas we still need to improve upon."

Makayla Cabral (3) led the offensive output against Cambrian, not only scoring for the first time in her OCAA rookie season, but also recording a rare hat trick on some great finishes both on the ground and in the air. Goalkeeper Sydney Greenberg was solid between the posts recording the shutout, while the middle of the field was controlled handily behind solid play from rookies Elisabeth Virelli and Danielle Montecinos.

In Sunday's matchup, after seeing Sault College get on the board early in the 15th minute the Huskies refocused and upped the pressure, scoring four unanswered goals. Brianna Samuels-McLaughlin (3) and Kristina Anderson (2) each with a pair to their names.

On the men's side, Filipe Vilela (9) was a one-man scoring machine tallying eight goals between the two games. Vilela currents sits fourth in the race for OCAA scoring leader, three goals behind Humber's Leaford Allen.

The team looked in complete control in both matches, capitalizing on close-range scoring opportunities and peppering the opposing defense with 45 total shot attempts. The Huskies' aggressive style of play had the Golden Shield and Cougars on their heels the entire game, proving difficult to garner any type of offensive momentum back up the field the other way.

Both teams look to get back on the practice pitch this week in preparation for an Eastern Ontario road trip that will see them face off against St Lawrence College (Kingston) on Friday October 4th, and the Algonquin Thunder (Ottawa) on Saturday October 5th.
