Despite the final boxscore, the Huskies Men's Baseball team looks poised to compete this season.

Opening the season against a 5-time OCAA Provincial Champion St. Clair Saints is no easy feat, but the young squad held its own and easily showed the strides the program is continuing to make under 2nd year head coach AJ Wideman.

"This year's recruiting class was an opportunity to add to last year's core and take the next step as a group. The addition of guys like Aiden Colangelo (Vaughn, ON), Josh Cipolla (Oakville, ON) and Mitch Triolo (Scarborough, ON) will really solidify the starting lineup and give a chance to compete each and every game. All three have a wealth of international experience that will prove vital in leading our younger guys", said Wideman post-game.

Behind 2nd year starting pitcher David DeCassan (Nobleton, ON), the Huskies defense made some solid plays to keep them in it down till the final stretch. Wideman applauded his group for being prepared, aggressive, and ready to make the routine plays even this early in the season.

"I thought the game itself was a fantastic measuring stick and proved just how far this team has come in a short period of time. Loosing again in the last inning to the national champs really showed how far the gap has closed in this league."

With a strong combination of veterans, leaders and young talent, this group has the showings of what looks to be a very competitive season ahead of them.

The Huskies take to the mound again on Wednesday night as they travel to Connorvale Park to take on the defending champion Humber Hawks in their first road double header of the year. First pitch of Game 1 is scheduled for 5pm.
