WAGENHOFFER NAMED MEN’S BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR

Brady Wagenhoffer 2022 OCAA men's baseball player of the year, 1st team all star. Tyler Romandel, 2022 OCAA men's baseball 2nd team all star.

On Wednesday evening, at the St. Clair Centre for the Arts, the OCAA recognized the best baseball players from across the province prior to the start of the 2022 OCAA Men's Baseball Championships hosted by St. Clair College in Tecumseh, ON.

George Brown's Brady Wagenhoffer (2nd Year) was honoured as the 2022 OCAA Player of the Year following an incredible season. Wagenhoffer was an offensive juggernaut, finishing the regular season with 23 hits, including six doubles and three home runs, 21 RBI and 11 runs scored with a .418 batting average and slugging percentage of .727. He also drew 13 walks while only striking out twice on the season.

Head coach of the Men's Baseball team, Josh Appel, said "Brady is an all-around elite player in the OCAA. Offensively, he is a force. He is amongst the league leaders in every offensive category. His consistency at the plate is exceptional and has a chance to potentially break the league record in hits and RBIs."

This marks the second time a George Brown baseball player has earned a major OCAA award. Wagenhoffer joins Andrew Murrell who was crowned the OCAA Men's Baseball League Batting Champion during the 2014-15 season.

"Brady is known around the league and has still put up exceptional numbers despite being "pitched around" regularly", continued Appel.""Brady is one of those players who gets the whole ballpark's attention every time he walks up to the dish. Brady is also an outstanding catcher on the defensive side and all pitchers enjoy throwing to him."

Wagenhoffer has also been named an OCAA Men's Baseball 1st Team All-Star, while Tyler Romandel (2nd Year) was named an OCAA Men's Baseball 2nd Team All-Star. This season, Romandel played in 13 games making 35 appearances at the plate. He was second in major league categories most of the season, right behind Wagenhoffer. He recorded a total 17 hits, scoring 15 runs, with 14 RBI and holds a .486 batting average.

The Huskies will take to the field on Thursday October 20th at 4pm against the Fanshawe Falcons in their opening game of the championship at host St. Clair College. Follow us on social for updates throughout the tournament, or check out the 2022 Men's Baseball Championship website page.
