HUSKIES BEGIN SEASON WITH TWO WINS

The George Brown Huskies men's baseball team opened their season with a two-game series sweep over the Fanshawe Falcons on the road Friday (Sept. 9) afternoon.

Game 1: George Brown 2, Fanshawe 1
Second-year pitcher Nathan Long started the season on the right foot, throwing a complete game while only surrendering one run on four hits, three walks and striking out two.

It was in deadlock at 1-1 in the fourth until Marcus Herback scored on a wild pitch, which stood as the game-winning run.

 

Game 2: George Brown 21, Fanshawe 11
With the score at 11-8 in the top of the seventh, the Huskies offence exploded with 10 runs to the top half to seal the victory.

First-year infielder Marcus Herback led the team, going 3-of-4 from the plate with four RBIs and four runs. Third-year catcher Brady Wagenhoffer chipped in with four runs and two RBIs on three hits and three walks, while third-year third basemen Tom Edwards Gireau posted three RBIs in the win. 

Second-year pitcher Hayden Wesseling picked up the win, surrendering four runs, on five hits and one strikeout in three innings of work. 


UP NEXT: The Huskies will battle the Humber Hawks in two-game series on Wednesday night (Sept. 13). Games are scheduled at 5pm and 7:30pm.
