HUSKIES SWEEP SAULT

HUSKIES SWEEP SAULT

The men's baseball team only surrendered one run in two games to take both games against the Sault Cougars on the road Saturday (Sept. 16) afternoon.

Game 1: George Brown 8, Sault 1

The Huskies offence got off to an outstanding start, jumping out to a 7-1 lead after three innings, and the pitching took it from there.

Pitchers Nathan Long, Michael Guardiero, Brady Wagenhoffer and Simon Jardine combined to surrender only one run off five hits and four walks while striking out nine.

First-year outfielder Ciaran O'Dowd cracked the team's first homerun of the season when he smashed a two-run shot in the second inning to get the offence humming.

Game 2: George Brown 16, Sault 0

The Huskies offence continued their impressive play as the team had a .425% batting average in the game in the shutout victory.

Marcus Herback, Tom Edwards Gireau, Peteco Marshall, Patrick Jannetta and Brendan Nolet all drove in two RBIs, while nine Huskies recorded a hit in the game.

Herback displayed his hot bat once again, going 4-of-6 from the plate.

In his first career OCAA start, first-year pitcher Nathan Brown was almost flawless. He threw four shutout innings, only allowing three hits to pick up his first career win.

UP NEXT: The Huskies host their first home games of the season when they battle the Centennial Colts on Wednesday (Sept. 20). The game times are 5pm and 7pm.
