HUSKIES HEAD TO FINAL FOR SECOND STRAIGHT SEASON

The George Brown Huskies men's basketball team advanced to the OCAA Provincial Championship final for the second season after taking down the St. Clair 83-75 in the semi-finals on Saturday (Mar. 2) in Oshawa, Ont.

With the win, the Huskies qualified for the CCAA National Championship for the third time in the last four seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies came out ready to right the wrong in a rematch of last year's gold medal game. The team shot 50% in the opening 10 minutes to jump to a 23-16 lead.

What was extremely impressive about George Brown was their balanced offence. They put up a game-high 30 points in the second quarter with eight different scorers in the frame. The Huskies held a large 53-33 lead in the halftime break.

St. Clair began to chip away at their deficit in the third quarter, holding George Brown to only 12 points while scoring 16 of their own. That is before things exploded in the fourth quarter, and the Saints were suddenly back within single digits. St. Clair tallied 26 points in the final quarter as the green and gold rallied. The hill was too steep to climb as time ran out, with the Huskies defeating the Saints 83-75.

NOTABLE STATS: Jeremiah Brown had 22 points on the night for the Huskies, shooting 7-for-11, while adding six rebounds, two assists and block. He was named the player of the game for George Brown.

Third-year guard Jacob Masters filled up the stat sheet with 13 points, five rebounds, five assists and two steals, while fourth-year forward Christian Tabiri registered 13 points and four assists in the win.

UP NEXT: George Brown battles the Humber Hawks in the gold medal at 5pm on Sunday, March 3rd, before both teams travel to New Brunswick for the 2024 CCAA Men's Basketball Championship.
