HUSKIES OFF TO FINAL FOUR

The George Brown Huskies men's basketball team advanced to the Final Four for the third time in the last four seasons, defeating Mohawk 101-90 in the quarter-finals at home on Saturday (Feb. 24) evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The first half was a back-and-forth affair and a true playoff atmosphere at Casa Loma. The score reflected it, with it being 50-47 at the half.

The close battle continued in the third quarter. The Huskies shot over 50% from the field in the quarter, and despite holding Mohawk to shooting 36.4%, it was a one-possession game, 71-69, heading into the fourth quarter.

The Huskies increased their lead to six, 86-80, with four minutes left. Mohawk responded with back-to-back threes in the span of 20 seconds to tie the game. It remained a one-possession game with 1:41 left, and that's when George Brown flexed their muscles, going on an 11-2 run to end the game. Third-year guard Jacob Masters led the way in the quarter, dropping 14 of the team's 30 points in the frame.

NOTABLE STATS: Third-year guard Masters led the way with a game-high 27 points, eight rebounds, three assists and a steal.

Jeremiah Brown filled the stat sheet with 16 points, 22 rebounds, six assists, a career-high five blocks and four steals, while third-year forward Derrick Taylor followed suit, posting 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks in the victory.

UP NEXT: The Huskies head out to Oshawa, Ont., for the Provincial Championships hosted by Durham College. They will face the St. Clair Saints in the semi-finals on Saturday, March 2 at 7:30pm.

Depending on the results, George Brown will play in the gold medal game at 5pm or the bronze medal game at 2:30 on Sunday, March 3rd.
