HUSKIES OFF TO QUARTERFINALS

The George Brown Huskies men's soccer put together one of their best matches of the season, shutting out the St. Lawrence Surge 5-0 in the crossover playoff match on Tuesday (Oct. 19th) evening in Kingston, Ont.

"I believe we won because the guys really did not want to lose to the Surge, "head coach Johnny Williams explained. "We knew that we were going to be more skillful and challenged them to match them for work rate."

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies did not wait long to open the scoring as Anas El-Bogi found the back of the net in the sixth minute. Both teams exchanged chances in the opening half afterwards, but the score remained the same at the half.

George Brown came up flying in the opening 15 minutes of the second half. Tiago De Jesus recorded his first goal of the season in the 53rd minute to double the team's advantage. However, the Huskies kept pilling on the pressure, so much so, they were awarded three penalty kicks in 12 minutes between the 55th minute and the 67th minute. Yonis Jama, De Jesus and Christopher Badibengi all converted their penalty kicks to put the game out of reach.

It's the first time the program has won a crossover playoff game since 2017.

UP NEXT: The Huskies continue their playoff road trip on Saturday when they travel to London, Ont., to battle the CCAA No.10 Fanshawe Falcon (5-0-1)

"In order to beat Fanshawe, we will need to minimize our giveaways in the defensive third of the field and capitalize on our opportunity," coach Williams explained.

All the action begins at 8:30pm at City Wide Field.
