When Friday, September 17th arrives, it will mark the first time the men’s soccer team will play a regular season game in 697 days. In 2019, the squad went 4-4 and placed fourth in the East division. They will open the season up against the same team they played their last OCAA game against in 2019 in the playoff crossover round in the Humber Hawks. All the action between these two teams starts at 8:30pm Esther Shiner Stadium.
Coach's Thought
Led by head coach, John Williams, the team is ready to get back onto the field and compete.
“I’m glad that we’re back on the field and the guys are getting to know their teammates,” he explained. “I believe one of the team’s strength will be their work ethic and ability to push the pace.”
Key Returning Players
Steve Knezevic
Position: Midfielder
Knezevic earned a spot out of the open tryout ahead of the 2019-20 season and put together an extraordinary campaign. The midfielder was tremendous in every facet of the game, both offensively and defensively. He played in six outdoor matches, while recording a goal. He was nominated for the 2020 Huskies Male Rookie of the Year award.
Tiago De Jesus
Position: Defender
De Jesus joined the team going into the 2019-20 season and it did not take long for the defender to make an impact on the backline. He played in seven of the eight matches during the outdoor season, while starting in three of them. His efforts defensively helped the team only surrender more than two goals in just one of the seven regular season matches in which he dressed.
Jacob 'Kwame' Yankey
Position: Midfielder
Yankey was a perfect role-player addition to the Huskies soccer program since earning a spot at the open tryout in 2016. His teams have qualified for the OCAA playoffs in three of the four seasons, while claiming the bronze medal in 2016. He has played in 34 games throughout his career with the program.
