HUSKIES PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

HUSKIES PICK UP FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON

The George Brown Huskies men's soccer team picked up their win of the season with a 4-1 victory on the road against the Sault Cougars on Saturday (September 25) at Superior Heights Turf Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies got things going early on in the match. In the 14th minute, Alon Steinbach and Yonis Jama put together a quick give-and-go, which gave Jama a step on the defenders just past midfield. Even with a few Cougars on his back, the striker galloped down the field and made no mistake for the team's first goal of the season.

The Cougars responded just over 10 minutes later off a penalty kick from Giovanni Campanelli. What looked like a tie score heading into halftime was quickly erased. Steinbach sent a beautiful through ball down the wing to Javae Hall. The first-year forward then crossed the ball into the box, and Anas El-Bogi redirected it into the back of the next with just over a minute left in the opening half.

The third-year midfielder was at it again in the second half. The Huskies ball movement was on display as they put together a nice tik-tac-toe play that got El-Bogi behind the defence for a breakaway. He was able to push the ball past a sparling goalkeeper to hand the team a third and much-needed insurance goal. Tiago Torres picked up his first-career goal with the Huskies late in the match to secure the victory.

UP NEXT: The Huskies have a chance at redemption against the Humber Hawks (2-0) on Wednesday (Sept. 29) night, when they travel to the Ontario Soccer Centre. George Brown dropped their season opener to Humber by a score of 6-0. The match begins at 6:30 p.m.
