HUSKIES DROP CLOSE DECISION TO PANTHERS

The George Brown Huskies men's volleyball team came up just short against the Canadore Panthers 3-1 (23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25) at St. James Athletic Centre on Sunday afternoon.

Notable Stats: Second-year outside hitter Vivek Mathimakki recorded a game-high 20 points on 17 kills, two aces, and a block, while adding five digs. Second-year outside hitter Franstelle PeBenito chipped in with 14 points off 10 kills, two blocks and two aces.

How It Happened: The opening set was a back-and-forth affair between the two sides. With the score at 12-11, the Panthers rallied off a 5-0 run, which was enough to hold off the Huskies and take the set 25-23.

George Brown came out swinging in the second set, jumping out to a 15-8 lead. Canadore fought back to trail by one point later on, but the home team snatched the set, 25-23.

The Panthers had a counter punch in the third set gaining a seven-point advantage at 19-12. The Huskies were unable to dig themselves out of the hole, dropping the set 20-25.

The road team kept the heat on the Huskies, winning six of the first seven points in the fourth set. Later on, George Brown generated a 9-1 run to tie the score at 21-21. Unfortunately, the Panthers recorded four of the next five points to win the set and match.

George Brown's record sits at 8-8 after the loss, which puts them in sixth place in the East division.

Up Next: The Huskies play two matches this week to finish off the regular season. First, they travel to Georgian to take on the Grizzlies on Wednesday night. All the action starts at 8:00 PM.
