HUSKIES DROP CLOSE MATCH TO LANCERS

The George Brown Huskies men's volleyball team fell 3-1 (25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 21-25) to the Loyalist Lancers at St James Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Notable Stats: Second-year right-side hitter Vivek Mathimakki posted a game-high 17 points on 15 kills, an ace and a block. First-year left-side hitter Sam Delgado chipped in with 10 points off eight kills, an ace, and a block and added a team-high eight digs.

Second-year outside hitter Franstelle PeBenito recorded eight points on five kills, two blocks, and an ace in a losing effort.

How It Happened: The Huskies came out swinging in the opening set jumping out to a 14-7 lead on the Lancers. George Brown held off a late push by Loyalist to take the set 25-22.

In the second set the two teams exchanged momentum and it reflected in the score sitting at 14-14. Then Loyalist put together an 8-3 run, which gave them the lead and ultimately the set 25-21.

The Lancers rode the momentum into the third set creating a solid 21-13 advantage. The Huskies did not fold and continued to fight. They generated an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 23-21, but the fell just short dropping the set 25-21.

For the second straight set, the Huskies found themselves in an early hole down 12-6 this time. But once again the team battled back to get within two points at 22-20. The Lancers were too much on this day though as they grabbed the final set 25-21.
