HUSKIES GO 2-0 ON ROAD TRIP

The George Brown Huskies women's basketball team had a perfect road trip out East winning both games in just over 30 hours. They took down the St. Lawrence Vikings 69-59 and followed it up with a 69-57 performance against the Loyalist Lancers on Saturday.

On Friday night in Kingston, Ont., the Huskies locked down the Vikings. Despite only shooting 36.8% compared to St. Lawrence's 43.9% during the contest, George Brown still won. The biggest reason was their defensive effort. The Huskies recorded 42 points off a season-high 45 turnovers on the night. Their defensive tenacity went to work right from tip-off as the Vikings posted double-digit turnovers in three of the four quarters.

Second-year forward Victoria Lawrence recorded a game-high 15 points, six assists, three steals and three rebounds. Bronte Stark was a spark plug off the bench posting 13 points and six rebounds.

The veteran Zae Sellers chipped in with 12 points, seven steals, and four assists, while first-year guard Kayana Granger registered 12 points, five rebounds, four steals and a block in the victory.

The next day in Belleville, Ont., the women continued their defensive ways. They held the Lancers to shoot under 28% from the floor and forced 29 turnovers. The effort on the defensive side translated to the offensive end. The Huskies snagged 18 of their 47 rebounds on the offensive glass, which led to 15 second-chance points.

Sellers dropped a game-high 24 points as well as recording five assists and four rebounds, while Lawrence came just shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 10 steals and eight rebounds.

Bronte, who is in her first season with the Huskies, believes the team's defence continues to improve every day. "Defensively, we've been practicing hard to tweak our full-court press plays so that we can utilize our long, athletic players to force turnovers. When we're aggressive in our traps, it makes us a very tough team to get by."

The team's effort played a significant factor in George Brown picking up their fifth straight win and improving their overall record to 11-3 on the season. The team sits in third place in the East division.
