HUSKIES HOLD OFF LANCERS

The George Brown Huskies women's basketball team completed a perfect opening week as they defeated the Loyalist Lancers 68-61 on the road on Saturday afternoon.

NOTABLE STATS: Both teams came out running in the first quarter, with the Huskies holding the slight edge leading 16-12 after the opening quarter. The tight contest continued in the second quarter, but the Huskies maintained a 33-28 advantage at the half. 

The contest remained close the rest of the way, especially in the fourth quarter, with the Lancers being within one basket for the majority of the frame. However, with the Huskies up 58-57 with just under four minutes left, they rallied a 10-4 run to end the game.

Second-year forward Kayana Granger was simply spectacular in all facets. She recorded a double-double for the second straight game with 15 points and 17 rebounds. In addition, she was efficient shooting going six-of-nine from the field and two-of-four from deep. 

Second-year guard Mariam Konate was also impressive, posting 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, while first-year guard Thorin Pangan tallied a career-high of 13 points, three rebounds and a block in the victory.

UP NEXT: The Huskies face their toughness competition to date on Wednesday night when they host the CCAA No. 13 Humber Hawks at home. Tip off is scheduled for 6 pm.
