HUSKIES SOCCER ADDS GABI DIAS

The Huskies Women’s Soccer program is pleased to announce the addition of Gabi Dias for the upcoming 2021-2022 season.

“We are super excited to add Gabi to the GBC family. I had the opportunity to work with her during her developmental years in youth soccer and she was very gifted,” head coach Leslie Fitzpatrick said. “She was being highly recruited by universities in the states and unfortunately suffered an injury at the most inopportune time. She has worked hard to overcome this and has shown strength and fortitude in her mentality which is seen in her return to the field of play.  She is excited, rejuvenated and ready to push the Husky program to another level.”

Dias joins the Huskies from the GS United Soccer Club. Throughout her time with the club, she accumulated numerous awards such as MVP and top scorer.

“I decided to enroll at George Brown College because I wanted to play soccer while receiving an education at the same time,” Dias explained. I'm also confident that I'll bring a new level of playing to the college sector and increase my teammates' intensity.”

The striker is known for her high-end speed. So much so, she had success in track and field along with soccer. While training with York University in high school, she was a stand-out in the 100m dash and hurdles. She placed at OFSAA, while also qualifying for the National Track and Field finals in both categories. Dias' speed makes her a goal-scoring threat every time she's on the pitch.

“Gabi is a player with pace and skill who has the ability to unbalance defences making her a constant threat always,” Fitzpatrick stated. “She has a knack for scoring and creating goals and we expect her to be a very important piece in a dynamic attack.”

“During my time at George Brown College, I hope to accomplish recognition from higher-level soccer coaches and institutions, in order to advance my soccer career,” she said. “Off the field, I hope to gain various connections and intern opportunities within the events industry.”

She will be enrolled in the Construction Engineering Technician program come September.
