HUSKIES VOLLEYBALL SPLIT WITH THE GRIZZLIES

On Saturday (Jan 21), the George Brown women's volleyball team (9-3) found the win column again after defeating the Georgian Grizzlies (4-9) in three straight sets 25-14, 25-18, 25-16 at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre. On the men's side, the Huskies (2-10) came up short against the Grizzlies (12-1) as they fell in three straight sets 25-17, 25-16, 25-20.

HOW IT HAPPENED - WVB:
The Huskies set the tone of the match early with a strong offensive attack as they quickly racked up the points on the scoreboard. The Grizzlies would spend most of the match battling from behind. As a team, the Huskies finished with 11 aces and 21 digs along with ten blocks. Outside hitters, Jaque Ronquillo (1st Year) and Taylor Grant (1st Year) both combined for 15 kills on 38 total attempts and 24 combined points for the match. Scarborough, Ontario native Crystal Nguyen (3rd Year), had a career high five blocks along with four kills on seven total attempts and three serving aces. She would finish the match with 12 points for the Huskies.

Head coach, Daphne Choi was happy with the way the team performed. "While I'm happy with the win I'm most proud of the fact that what we worked on in practice translated into those skills showing up in game on the court." She continued, "We were passing well, hitting well, blocking well, and digging well.  It really speaks to the built-up integrity of athlete that our volleyball program has been working on over several years.  Today watching the game I could feel the strength of our past athletes who set the bar and paved the way for a culture within our program that celebrates diversity and always demonstrates hard work."

HOW IT HAPPENED – MVB:
The Georgian Grizzlies would prove to be too strong for a Huskies team that had only seven players to work with. David Kiswa (1st Year) and Joseph Lee  (1st Year) both combined for 21 points along with seven digs. Kiswa would earn 10 kills on 32 total attempts while Lee would tally eight kills on 18 total attempts.
