George Brown's Yunji Kim, among the most successful female badminton players in program history, has been named one of twelve apprentices selected for the CCAA's 2018-19 Female Apprentice Coaching Program.

The program, entering its 14th season, aims to develop the apprentices coaching skill set to become more competent and confident, while also providing mentor coaches with an opportunity to sharpen leadership skills. Kim is one of four OCAA apprentices and the sole badminton coach in the country accepted into the program - she will be mentored by reigning Coach of the Year Will Schram, who she has played for over the past two seasons. 

Kim is coming off an incredible fifth and final season, one that saw the Lome native medal at both the provincial and national level. Competing in women's doubles, she and partner Angeline Alviar won an OCAA Silver and CCAA Bronze, both playing key roles in what was the most successful season for a single program in 50 years of Huskies athletics. Kim was also named to the OCAA All-Star team for a second consecutive season.

She will join one of the strongest staffs in the country, led by the aforementioned 2018 OCAA Coach of the Year Will Schram. Long-tenured, winning assistant coaches Donnie Tai and Howard Wong will also greatly aid in her coaching development. Kim's long and successful tenure with both the program and department are sure to pay dividends as she acclimates to coaching.
