George Brown badminton put together an impressive performance at the season-opening Humber Cup over the weekend, picking up right where the 2018 provincial champions left off.
The Huskies dominated men's doubles play as it was an all-Huskies final, with Ace Zeng and Mike Ra faced off against Alex Chao and Eric Kern; the two pairs were a combined 7-0 up to that point. Zeng and Ra would take a highly competitive final 21-17, 21-18 to earn a gold medal, while Chao and Kern settled for silver.
Ace Zeng carried his solid play into men's singles competition, where he again qualified for the finals thanks to a perfect record. He would drop an incredibly tight final 21-18, 22-20 gold medal match to Humber, settling for an impressive one gold, one silver medal performance over the three-day tournament.
On the women's side of things, Anh Hoang paced George Brown with an appearance in the women's singles semi-finals. Facing off against Humber's Duong, she dropped an incredibly tight 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 21-19) match to narrowly miss out on the Huskies fourth finals appearance of the day.
Hoang teamed up with Diana Bosco to win a silver medal on the 'B' side flight of women's doubles play.
