If you ask AJ Wideman what his biggest baseball accomplishment is, he will say “Without a doubt, representing my country in 2008 qualifying for the Beijing Summer Olympics.”
AJ grew up playing locally for the Mississauga North Tigers. He won a National Championship in 1998 representing Ontario. Shortly after, he moved to Dallas, TX to pursue two elite travel ball teams called the Texas Storm and the Texas Raptors. While living in Texas for two seasons, his team placed 3rd in the AAU USA National Championship in Orlando, FL. He was the only Canadian.
In 2002, after participating in multiple Perfect Game showcases and the Area Code Games in Long Beach, California, AJ accepted a full scholarship to pitch for the Razorbacks at the University of Arkansas.
In 2003, AJ was drafted in the 11th round, 327th overall by the Montreal Expos (Area scout, Alex Anthopoulos). He went on to pitch for a total of 9 professional seasons, reaching as high as AA New Hampshire (TOR), and posting a career ERA of 3.89. In 2009, he was named to Baseball America’s All-Independent Team, after going 10-1 with a 2.51 ERA with the New Jersey Jackals of the CAN AM League.
Currently AJ is giving back to the Mississauga North Tigers, the organization he grew up playing for. He has coached and instructed there for over 15 years. He now resides in Milton, Ont with his wife Amy and daughter, Peyton.
