WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS CAROLINA REBOLLEDO

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ADDS CAROLINA REBOLLEDO

The George Brown Women’s Basketball team is pleased to announce the addition of centre Carolina Rebolledo for the upcoming 2021-2022 season. She is enrolled in George Brown College’s two-year Business – Human Resources program.

“The reason why I decided to come to George Brown College was because I want to acquire new knowledge and skills about business and human resources, [as] I have an interest in developing my career in that field,” Rebolledo said. “I also want to continue my career as an athlete, and finish it as a Husky.”

Her basketball resume is lengthy and impressive to say the least. Rebolledo has played at the collegiate level in two different countries, having played for Popular Autonomous University of the State of Puebla in Mexico and Snow College of the NJCAA in the United States. The 6’4 centre has also represented her home country of Mexico on the international stage on a few occasions, including being a member of the squad that won the FIBA Central American Basketball Confederation (COCABA) championship in 2013.

“Having an international player from Mexico gives our team cultural awareness, which gives both sides an opportunity to learn and help each other,” first-year head coach Omari Wiltshire explained. “We are very excited to watch Carolina play in the OCAA, and [at] 6'4 it’s not going to be hard to spot her.”

Rebolledo is hoping to add to the program's recent success. The Huskies had a great 2019-2020 season, having gone 13-3 and improving the program's regular season record to a combined 42-8 since 2017-2018. The team has finished in the top two in the OCAA East Division every year during that stretch. Rebolledo is known for her defensive game, which will be a perfect addition to the ‘chaos’ style of defense that the Huskies like to play.

“Last year we made it non-negotiable [to rebound] the ball on both sides of the court. Most of the load landed on Coco Sauve. Adding a true centre in Carolina will help share the responsibilities,” Omari said. “She brings size, awareness and talent to the defensive end. There is comfort knowing we have a rim protector as our last line of defense. Offensively, we have a post entry pass to help start and finish plays.”

Rebolledo is extremely excited to play under coach Wiltshire and the energy he brings to the gym every day. She has a few goals in mind and wants to make sure she accomplishes them during her time as a Husky.

“My principle goals are to graduate with honours and become a champion with the Huskies team,” Rebolledo said.
