Men's soccer goalkeeper Aubrey Lowe and midfielder Steve Knezevic have been named Huskies athletes of the week for the period ending November 1st.
Claiming a silver medal at the OCAA Championship, Aubrey was crucial in the team's success. Totalling eight saves in the two matches against two CCAA top 10 teams, Lowe played so well that he was one of two Huskies named an OCAA Championship All-Star in Windsor, Ont.
His best performance came against the Seneca Sting in the semifinals. He made four significant saves to help the Huskies pull off an upset to not only advance to the OCAA final for the first time since 2007, but also book the team’s ticket to the program’s first CCAA National Championship.
Despite not showing up on the stat sheet, Knezevic played one of the most critical roles on the pitch for the Huskies. The team captain displayed his numerous responsibilities on both sides of the ball in the two matches at the OCAA Championship. Despite the team dropping a 4-0 decision to the Humber Hawks in the OCAA final, Knezevic was named Player of the Match for George Brown. The Huskies claimed a silver medal, their best result since 2007 and booked their ticket to the program’s first CCAA National Championship.
