Men’s soccer goalkeeper Aubrey Lowe and striker Yonis Jama are the Huskies athletes of the week because of their contributions at the CCAA National Championship in Calgary, Alta.
Lowe was one of the most dynamic and impactful players during the Huskies three matches making a total of eight saves during the week. His efforts were noticed as he was one of 11 players named a Championship All-Star.
Lowe played all three contests during the week, with his best coming against the Sait Trojans in the bronze quarter-finals. After the Trojans opened the scoring on a penalty kick in the 32nd minute, he ensured it was the only one they would score for the rest of the match. He made six outstanding saves, allowing the team to score a goal to force penalty kicks in the final minutes. Thereafter was when Lowe brought his play to another level. He stopped two of the five shooters to help the team advance to the bronze semifinals. The goalkeeper received one of the highest honours in Calgary of a white cowboy hat for being the Huskies man of the match.
Jama played a significant role in all three matches at CCAA National Championship that could not be tallied on a stat sheet. He played central striker, wing, and even one of the most critical positions in central midfielder throughout the tournament. Jama was named Huskies player of the match in the quarter-final match against the Douglas Royals. In the bronze medal quarter-final match, Jama scored one of the most important goals as he drilled the clinching goal in penalty kicks to complete the comeback against the Sait Trojans.
