2023-24 NOMINEES: FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

2023-24 NOMINEES: FEMALE ROOKIE OF THE YEAR

The department will highlight the nominees of the Huskies major awards - Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Female Rookie of the Year, Male Rookie of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Male Athlete of the Year - during the week leading up to the 54th Annual George Brown College Athletic Awards on Friday April 5th at the Glenn Gould Studio.

Here are the nominees for the 2023-24 Female Rookie of the Year.

Sonia Chwalek, Women’s Soccer
The first-year midfielder was one of top offensive players during the outdoor season. She finished with a team-high eight goals in 10 matches, five of which came in a single match against the Fleming Phoenix. Her contributions were pivotal as the team maintained an average of 3.40 goals per match and secured a playoff berth. Chwalek continued her impressive play into the indoor campaign, helping the team just missing out at the Provincial Championships due to tiebreakers. Chwalek was also the perfect example of student-athlete earning OCAA All-Academic honours

Claire Ramos, Women’s Volleyball
As a first-year libero for the Huskies, Ramos showcased her defensive skills, quickly establishing herself as one of the best players in her position. She ranked third in the OCAA in both total digs (251) and digs per set (3.75), a remarkable achievement for a first-year student-athlete. Ramos's contagious energy and upbeat demeanor have been invaluable to George Brown since her arrival, seamlessly integrating into the team from the outset. In recognition of her outstanding performance in her debut season, she earned two OCAA awards, being named an East Division Second Team All-Star and a member on the East Division All-Rookie Team.

Adrienne Williamson, Women’s Basketball
The first-year guard made her presence felt in the OCAA. She consistently demonstrated speed and assertiveness, averaging 7.9 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game. From day one, she played a massive role, and it showed on the court. She ranked second on the team in points, rebounds, and steals. Her impactful play was instrumental in elevating the team to one of the best in the East Division. For her play, she was named to the East Division All-Rookie Team.
