2023-24 NOMINEES: MALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

The department will highlight the nominees of the Huskies major awards - Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Female Rookie of the Year, Male Rookie of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Male Athlete of the Year - during the week leading up to the 54th Annual George Brown College Athletic Awards on Friday April 5th at the Glenn Gould Studio.

Here are the nominees for the 2023-24 Male Athlete of the Year.


Jason Alvarado, Men’s Soccer
For the second straight year, Alvarado is a nominee for this award. During the outdoor season, the third-year midfielder helped solidify a perfectly balanced team. The Huskies made history with an impeccable undefeated record of 10-0, scoring an impressive 62 goals, the highest in the league, while conceding the fewest goals against with just four. The team ended fourth, and the fourth-year midfielder was named an East Division First Team All-Star. His exceptional form continued into the indoor season, where he contributed significantly to the team's first-place finish in their pool at Regionals and ultimately secured the bronze medal at the OCAA Provincial Championships. Alvarado was a key contributor throughout their medal run, seeing significant playing time. He was the sole Huskies player chosen as an Indoor Soccer Championship All-Star.


Nick Manoukarakis, Men’s Baseball
Manoukarakis, the second-year shortstop, delivered an outstanding performance this season. He emerged as one of the province's most reliable and intimidating hitters, boasting impressive rankings in key batting statistics. He finished in the top 10 for batting average (.407), slugging percentage (.593), and on-base percentage, while also ranking in the top five for plate appearances (74), hits (24), total bases (35), walks (12), and doubles (6). His exceptional performance and dominance in his position earned him recognition as an OCAA Men's Baseball First-Team All-Star.


Christian Tabiri, Men’s Basketball
Tabiri delivered a career-best performance, significantly contributing to the program's remarkable achievements this season. The fourth-year forward emerged as a pivotal offensive and defensive weapon while showcasing versatility throughout the season. He achieved career-highs averaging 15.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. His impressive statistics placed him among the top 10 in the province for total points, rebounds per game, field goals made, and minutes played. His efforts were instrumental in the team securing an OCAA silver medal for the second consecutive year and achieving the program's best Nationals result since 1976, claiming a silver medal. Tabiri's exceptional season earned him several individual accolades, including the CCAA Championship First Team All-Star, OCAA East Division First Team All-Star, and OCAA Provincial Championship All-Star honours.
