HUSKIES CLAIM GOLD AT PROVINCIALS

HUSKIES CLAIM GOLD AT PROVINCIALS

For the first time since 1991, the Huskies won the gold medal in Women’s Doubles at the Provincial Championships.

Giselle Kochapanya and Monique Lee finished first in the pool after going 5-0 and not dropping a single set the entire time. After winning their semi-final match against Humber 21-7 and 21-15, they took down Seneca in a tight three-game match, 16-21, 21-12, 21-11.

The Men’s Doubles team of Kent Ayco and Henry Chan posted a 3-2 record during round-robin play to book a spot in the semi-finals. After dropping a close match to the eventual gold medal winner from Fanshawe, the pair ended up finishing fourth.

The Mix Doubles division was the most balanced of all the disciplines. Unfortunately, Eric Nguyen and Sharon Chung went 2-3 in the round-robin and just missed out on advancing to the semi-finals.

UP NEXT: Kochapanya and Lee secured a spot at the CCAA Badminton National Championships scheduled from February 29th to March 2nd at Seneca College.
