The George Brown Huskies men's soccer team is in the final four of the OCAA Championship for the first time since 2016. They will travel to St. Clair College in Windsor, Ont., to play two matches.

Their opponent in the semifinals is a familiar one, the Seneca Sting. This marks the third time this season the two teams will square off. The winner of this match advances to the OCAA final the next day and the CCAA National Championship a few weeks later.

Seneca won both matches in the regular season, but George Brown has grown a ton since. The team is coming off two massive playoff victories. They beat the St. Lawrence Surge and followed it up with a 3-2 comeback victory over the CCAA No. 10 Fanshawe Falcons in extra time. The Huskies did a spectacular job shutting down the Falcons offence while scoring three goals, the first ones Fanshawe allowed all season. In both matches, the Huskies were considered the underdog.

Seneca's playoff journey has been very similar to George Brown's. They shutout the Centennial Colts 8-0 in the crossover match and needed penalty kicks to come away with a 4-3 quarterfinal win over the Sheridan Bruins.

The Huskies defence will have their hands full against the Sting's balance offence as 10 players recorded two or more goals during the regular season. It doesn't help that they'll be without central defender Yusuf Jama, who picked up a red card in the quarterfinals.

The winner of this match will play either the Humber Hawks or the St. Clair Saints for gold at 4pm on Saturday (Oct. 30), while the defeated will be in the bronze medal match at 1pm on the same day.

The Huskies are looking to advance to the OCAA final for the first time since winning a silver medal in 2007 and a bronze medal in 2016.

Players to Watch

#9 Yonis Jama
The forward has been outstanding recording three goals in two playoff matches, two of which came in the quarterfinals against Fanshawe. The highlight of those two goals was in the 118th minute, Jama launched an absolute mission from 30 yards and sniped top corner to push the Huskies to the semifinals. He earned OCAA Athlete of the Week honours for his efforts.

#1 Aubrey Lowe
The third-year goalkeeper was crucial in both playoff victories. He didn't allow a single goal in the crossover match and followed it up with a great performance against Fanshawe. He will be relied upon again to shut down a top-tier offence. Seneca has yet to play against him since Lowe didn't play in the two matches during the regular season.
