FOUR HUSKIES CLAIM OCAA HARDWARE

FOUR HUSKIES CLAIM OCAA HARDWARE

After an impressive 17-1 season and finishing first place in the East Division for the third straight season, Robert Ocampo, Derrick Taylor, Jeremiah Brown and Chris Fields took home OCAA hardware.

In his final collegiate basketball season, Ocampo was named an East Division First-Team All-Star. Coming off a campaign where veteran shooting earned an East Division Second-Team All-Star honour, he took another step in his development. Being a fixture in the Huskies starting line-up and focal point of opposition defences, the sharpshooter averaged 10.7 points, three rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. The Huskies finished first in the East Division thanks to his effort and unselfish play. He also dominated in the classroom, receiving an OCAA All-Academic award.

Taylor is a jack of all trades. His shooting abilities, rebounding vision, anticipation, passing, defence, and basketball IQ were all displayed this season, so he was named an OCAA East Division First Team All-Star. The second-year forward was a consistent starter and leaned upon to lead in various areas on the court. His stat line reflected that as he averaged 12.2 points, seven rebounds, 2.5 assists while shooting 49.2% from the field. He impacted the game in every way imaginable on the court and is a massive reason why the Huskies hold the best record in the conference.

Fields earned the East Division Defensive Player of the Year award for the third time in his career. The fifth-year guard picked up where he left off in 2020 as a lockdown defender for George Brown. He is the perfect mix of agility, quickness, aggressiveness and toughness that can get under the skin of opposing players. In addition, Fields has a natural ability to force turnovers, as he led the province with 3.1 steals per game. He also chipped in with 8.6 points and 4.1 rebounds during the season.

His intensity and engine never stop, which was a significant catalyst for the Huskies' elite defence this season.

Brown earned the East Division Sixth Man of the Year award, which marked the third straight season a Husky received this. He also was named an OCAA East Division Second Team all-star. In his first season with the Huskies, he was the perfect scorer off the bench averaging 12.2 points and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 52.4% from the field in just under 16 minutes per game. The forward shot over 70% in four contests over the season, including an exceptional performance in the Huskies playoff crossover match Redeemer, where he scored 27 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 5-of-6 from beyond the arc.
