The basketball teams will play two games this week, with the first being on Tuesday night against the Durham Lords on the road.

The women will play their first game in exactly two weeks. The Huskies (7-2) and the Lords (7-2) are tied for second place in the East division. This game could have significant implications in playoff seedings come late February. George Brown did get the upper hand on Durham in the first meeting taking it 82-71. Second-year forward Victoria Lawrence played a significant factor in that contest posting a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds. Lawrence is coming off a monster performance two weeks ago recording 27 points, 17 rebounds and seven steals in an overtime victory over Centennial. Thanks to that stat line, she was named CCAA Female Athlete of the Week and OCAA Star of the Week. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 pm.

It does not get any easier for the women as they host the University of Toronto Mississauga Eagles (7-3, 3rd in East) on Friday. The Eagles are only a half-game back of the Huskies and beat them in their last encounter in late October. This game begins at 6:00 pm in the Casa Loma Athletic Centre.

The men are looking to extend their winning streak to an unprecedented 12 games. George Brown (11-1) is coming off an impressive 114-75 victory over the Fleming Knights on the road where five players hit double-digits. First-year forward Naseem Barry led the way recording 21 points off the bench in his first game of 2020. The Huskies depth allows them to play high tempo on both sides of the ball, which opposing teams have had trouble dealing with for a full game. George Brown's defence has held opponents to under 80 points in eight of their 12 games this season. A perfect example was the last time George Brown and Durham faced off. Even though the offence struggled shooting under 40%, the defence held the Lords (3-8) to just 66 points. The Huskies won the contest 78-66 in early November. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 pm.

George Brown will then battle University of Toronto Mississauga at home on Friday night. The Eagles (5-8, 7th in East) are desperate for a victory since they only have one win in their last four games. The Huskies will need to keep an eye on Zamam Khan. The third-year player has filled up the stat sheet this season averaging 18 points, 8.1 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game. George Brown did an excellent job last time, holding him to just six-points and forcing a season-high eight turnovers in a 91-70 victory in October. The game is scheduled to start at 8:00 pm.

Volleyball heads to Centennial

The volleyball teams only have one game on the schedule this week as they travel to Centennial to battle the Colts on Friday night.

The women's team (7-5, 5th in East) have won three of their last four matches, while only dropping three sets during that span. One of those victories came against the Colts (2-10, 9th in East) when the Huskies won 3-0 in late November. George Brown relies on a balanced attack featuring Ashley Lau, Beatriz Vilches and Megi Memcaj to overpower opponents. First serve is set for 6:00 pm

The men's team (6-6, 6th in East) are looking to snap a three-game losing streak and pick up their first win of 2020. They have been in some close matches recently, notably against the Loyalist Lancers last Saturday, but just have not been able to come out with victories. The Huskies last win came against the Colts (3-9, 8th in East) when they won in straight sets to finish 2019 on a high.

Second-year left-side hitter Vivek Mathimakki has been on a roll. He is averaging over 13 points and 10 kills in his last five matches and is coming off a season-high 18 points, and 15 kills against Loyalist on Saturday. First serve is set for 8:00 pm.
