HUSKIES CAN'T SOLVE HAWKS IN DOUBLEHEADER

Huskies baseball player gets ready to throw ball from base

Riding a five game winning streak, the George Brown Huskies Men's Baseball team (7-5) couldn't solve the Humber Hawks (9-1) on Wednesday night (Sept 28) at Christie Pits Park in Toronto.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GM1: Humber opened up the scoring on a RBI double by third baseman Ryan Brodie in the top of the 2nd inning, and would take an early 2-0 lead coming out of it. The third inning the Hawks stayed hot, recoding six hits and crossing the plate six times in the frame to build up an 8-0 lead. Humber pitcher Aidan Murphy was on his game, retiring 15 of the 18 batters he faced.

Then, in the 6th inning, the Huskies turned the tables. After two early outs in the bottom of the 6th, Hawks reliever Jayke Wong gave up a series of singles to the home squad leading to four runs off of four hits, closing the gap to 8-4. After a three-up three-down top of the 7th inning for George Brown relief pitcher Gregory Hall (5th Year), the Huskies threatened once again hitting two doubles leading to two runs in the bottom half of the inning. But that proved to be as close as the comeback would get, with George Brown falling 8-6.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GM 2: In Game 2 of the double header, the Huskies were consistent in reaching base over the course of the game but simply could not convert on their opportunities. On eight hits and six walks, George Brown left 10 men on base over the course of the evening. While Huskies pitchers struck out 11 Humber batters, including seven by starting pitcher Nathan Long, the visiting team still managed to record 11 hits including a series of multiple-base hits and two home runs to build a growing lead as the game wore on.

Huskies 3rd baseman Jared Lupton (1st Year) had a productive evening at the plate going 3-4 with a double and two runs scored, but it didn't prove enough on a night that just did not go the Huskies way. They dropped Game 2 by a final score of 15-3.

UP NEXT: Seniors Day takes place this Sunday October 2nd at Christie Pits versus the visiting Fanshawe Falcons (8-2). George Brown will be celebrating its graduating seniors in a special presentation before the first pitch of Game 1 of the doubleheader at 1pm. Can't make the game?
