COMMITTED HUSKIES FOR PROSPECTIVE 2021-2022 SEASON

This past year has been very difficult for all our student-athletes, with no competitive sport seasons and the majority of academic program delivery moving online. We therefore wanted to take time to highlight the Huskies that have committed to continuing on with their teams for the prospective 2021-2022 season.

We are proud to put a spotlight on these student-athletes and are very excited to see what the future holds for their teams.

If you are interested in joining the pack and trying out for one of our Huskies varsity teams, fill out our Prospective Athlete Form and a Varsity Coordinator or Coach will be in touch with you directly.

The Huskies Badminton program, should be considered one of the most dominant teams in the country.  Over the last three seasons, the program has claimed the school's first CCAA National banner, eight CCAA National medals, 11 OCAA Provincial medals, and five men's and women's OCAA Team Championships. The team is in a great position to continue this trend, as the defending CCAA National champion and former CCAA silver medalist are both parts of the group returning to the program.

She collected numerous individual awards along the way, such as the OCAA Women's Badminton Player of the Year, CCAA All-Canadian, and East Regional All-Star. At Provincials, Le won gold in Women's Singles and helped the Huskies women's team win their third straight OCAA title.

Zeng was also awarded the Huskies Male Athlete of the Year and Male Rookie of the Year.

The following season, he earned the Provincial silver medal and helped the men's team claim their second straight OCAA Team Championship. He averaged 5.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.6 steals per game over 20 regular season games. The Toronto, Ont., native's biggest impact came when the lights were the brightest: he posted a game-high 18 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter, in the Huskies semi-final victory over Redeemer College to book a ticket to the OCAA Provincial Championship gold medal game. Campbell followed it up in that championship game by chipping in 12 points off the bench to help the program claim their first OCAA banner in 44 years.

The power forward displayed his potential throughout the season, especially at the 42nd Annual Huskies Men's Basketball Tournament in January of 2020. Her size, awareness, rebounding abilities, and defensive instincts will complement the outstanding defence the Huskies already have.

She played both at midfield and defence throughout the outdoor and indoor seasons, contributing significantly to arguably one of the best defensive teams in Ontario.

#4 Elisabeth Virelli Women's Soccer

Elisabeth Virelli
Program: Business Marketing

Virelli was highly recruited by the Huskies program ahead of 2019-20. The forward's speed, agility, and play-making abilities allowed her to have a consistent role throughout the season and kept opponents consistently on their heels. The Toronto, Ont., native went on to start in five of the team's nine outdoor matches, while recording a goal during that span.

Angela Diaz Romero
Program: Architecture Technology

Diaz Romero joined the program in 2019 and has done anything to help the team excel. She is a versatile player that can be placed at the midfield and forward. She played in eight of nine outdoor matches for the Huskies in 2019, and was used very similarly in the indoor season. Her commitment and drive to improve are second to none as she was awarded the Huskies Fitness Junkie of the Week in November of 2020.

The work ethic she has displayed throughout her time at George Brown College is no different in the classroom, where she has been named to the Honour Roll in every academic semester she has completed so far in her program.

#14 Pamela Diaz Women's Soccer

Pamela Diaz
Program: Business Administration - Accounting

Diaz joined the Huskies program in 2018 and from that point has put in the work both on and off the pitch. Even when there was no season, the Toronto, Ont., native continued to excel in training as she was named the first-ever Husky Fitness Junkie of the Week. She has played in 16 outdoor matches in two seasons, while also competing in a number of indoor contests as well. She was part of the club that qualified for the 2020 Provincial Indoor Soccer Championship.

She has found similar success in the classroom as well, being named a 2018-2019 OCAA All-Academic and achieving Honour Roll status this past semester.

Men's Volleyball

The Men's Volleyball program heads into the future with new head coach Sam Schachter. The Olympian takes over a team that has posted a 42-30 regular season record over the past four years, while qualifying for the OCAA Championship tournament in two of those four seasons.

Sam Delgado
Program: Honours Bachelor of Business Administration

Delgado made the team as a walk on back in 2019. He went on to play in 17 matches for the Huskies and was a swiss-army knife for the squad. The Caracas, Venezuela, native was solid in every facet of the game and offered a boost when needed. The outside hitter averaged 1.7 kills and 1.16 digs per set during the 2019-2020 season. He has worked extremely hard both on and off the court and was awarded the Michael 'Pinball' Clemons Athletics & Recreation Award in 2020 for his efforts.

His success continued in the classroom, where he was named to the Honour Roll in both semesters this past academic year. He will be graduating from the Business Administration program and is enrolled to begin the Construction Engineering Technology come September to continue his studies.

Nathanael Masson

Program: Honours Bachelor of Technology - Construction Management

Masson joined the Huskies in 2017 as an outside hitter. The Ajax, Ont., native has been a perfect depth player that can be placed in any situation and make an impact. He has appeared in 44 career matches, while posting 0.4 points and 0.60 digs per set. His leadership and experience are a welcome addition back to the program, and decided to take the 2020-21 academic year off due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Avery Titus

Program: Culinary Management

Titus joined the Huskies roster in the 2018-19 season. The middle blocker, who stands at 6'4, has helped disrupt opposing offences with his height and defensive instincts, while also acting as an offensive weapon off the bench. The Scarborough, Ont., native has played in 30 career matches, while posting 1.4 points and 1.02 kills per set.

Raul Galvao
Program: Food & Beverage Management

Galvao was initially recruited for what would have been the 2020-21 season. He has a significant amount of experience in the sport, including playing most of his OVA career with the Markham Stingers. The libero was a part of the team that won the 2016 National Championship and two OVA Championships. In his high school career, he helped his team reach the Regional finals four times, while winning two of them. His experience and defensive mindset will be a perfect addition to the squad.

Women's Volleyball

The Women's Volleyball program has been heading in the right direction over the last two seasons. In 2018-19, they finished with an 8-10 record and placed 5th in the East Division, which qualified them for the program's first crossover playoff match since the program was inaugurated in 2006-07. The very next season, they took another massive step as they posted a program-best 11-7 record and placed fourth in the East Division. It marked the first time the program hosted a crossover playoff match.

Under fifth-year head coach, Daphne Choi, the team is in a perfect position to make even more noise down the road. Here are the student-athletes who have committed to returning in the fall.

Ashley Lau
Program: Honours Bachelor of Business Administration

Lau was recruited to the program in 2018, and right from the start was one of the top all-around players in the province. She is a player that any team would love to have because of how much she can affect a match. In 35 career matches, the outside hitter has averaged 2.3 points off 1.54 kills and 0.75 service aces per set, while also chipping in with a team-high 2.19 digs per set.

The Toronto, Ont., native was one of the best players in the OCAA during the 2019-20, as she was near the top in every statistical category for the team, including setting various career-highs. The outside hitter improved so much in her second season, that she was named an OCAA Second Team East Division All-Star. She also achieved Honour Roll status in the last two academic semesters.

Megi Memcaj
Program: Business Administration - Coop

Mamcaj walked on to the program during the 2019-20 season making her first appearance in the second half of the season. However, it did not take long for her to make a name for herself in the OCAA, as she regularly displayed both her offensive power and defensive instincts. She was asked to play numerous positions and made an impact every time. She averaged 2.2 points off 1.93 kills per set while adding 1.79 digs per set in nine matches. Her best match came in the season finale when she posted a career-high 14 points off 13 kills against Seneca College. She will be the primary libero moving forward, which is her natural position.

She brought the same level of concentration and intensity to the classroom, being named to the Honour Roll in both academic semesters.

Jasmin Walia

Program: Health Information Management

Walia was brought on to the Huskies program in 2017. The setter has been tasked with running and executing plays for the offence for the last three seasons and is a big reason why the program has taken significant steps in the right direction over that time. She has appeared in 40 career matches so far, averaging 5.97 assists per match, while adding 0.9 points per set and 1.28 digs per set. Walia's commitment to her development resulted in her receiving the Kimchan Fitness Award in 2019.

Taylor Grant
Program: Fashion Techniques & Design

Grant was a highly touted recruit in the summer of 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic did not get the opportunity to demonstrate her abilities. The 5-foot-9 left-side hitter from Winnipeg, Man., spent the two prior seasons with the University of Winnipeg – College Wesmen (previously of the MCAC conference).

Grant has excelled in her first year in the Fashion Techniques & Design program, achieving Honour Roll status in both semesters. Do not be surprised if you hear her name come up more in the future.

The versatile player earned the team's TOPS Volleyball Fair Play Award for her efforts. She has played in 40 career matches in three seasons and is primed to have another solid campaign.
