The Huskies Athletics & Recreation Department holds a firm and strong position against racism, hate and other forms of discrimination.
We therefore stand in solidarity with Asian communities including our students, staff, fans and the greater George Brown College community in the struggle against anti-Asian racism and rising violence towards Asian peoples in Canada and abroad.
Recent tragic events continue to reinforce the need for action and a zero tolerance approach to racism to keep our community safe. We will continue to use Sport & Recreation to bring people together in a positive way, creating those safe and welcoming spaces for all.

"The recent shootings in the United States targeted at people of Asian decent are simply unfathomable to comprehend. But they are an unfortunate and very real demonstration of not only the systemic racism the Asian community has suffered in both the US and Canada over hundreds of years, but also how easily contagious and escalated hate and violence can become even in 2021.
We must ALL do our part to curb racism if we are to make even a crack in the cycle and create community environments where everyone can truly feel safe, regardless of the color of skin or ethnic origin. I personally look to continue to use the spirit and power of sports to help make these spaces a reality for our Huskies family." Melanie G.L. Manager, Athletics & Recreation
"There has never been a more appropriate time for Asians to speak up about racism and for non-Asians to defend and advocate for us. Anti-Asian racism is not new, and it's not new in Canada. Anti-Asian racism has sometimes not been discussed because the challenges facing the Black and Indigenous Communities have desperately needed that air space. Given the latest assaults, harassment, and murder of Asian people, it's important to recognize that comparing the severity of it benefits nobody. It's the same underlying issue: systemic racism. And it has to stop.
"Amidst this pandemic, anti-Asian racism and xenophobia have increased drastically. Stopping Asian hate is relevant everywhere. We must do our part as a society by being loud in condemning the acts of racism and hate crimes against the Asian community. We need to show our solidarity and educate ourselves as well as our peers on what we can do to stop these prejudices and bigotry. Your voice has power and working together will only amplify our collective voices. Be courageous.#stopasianhate." Jasmin W.
