ALVARADO RETURNS TO HUSKIES SOCCER

ALVARADO RETURNS TO HUSKIES SOCCER

The George Brown Huskies Men’s Soccer program is pleased to announce the return of Jason Alvarado for the upcoming 2022-2023 season.

“The reason why I decided to come back to George Brown is mainly for two reasons. One of them is I know Coach Johnny very well, and I know how he likes to run his teams. He always has his teams become a brotherhood and have a great bond on and off the field. Also, George Brown allows me to further my education and return to school to finish my education and get a degree,” Alvarado explained.

The midfielder started six of the eight matches he played for the Huskies during the 2019 season. He made an impression in the OCAA, being named an East Division Second Team All-Star. For the past two years, Alvarado has been training with clubs, Benfica Aguia & Rabo Piexe, in Portugal, and he believes those experiences have only helped him for his return with the Huskies.

“Having been in Portugal was a great experience. It is an experience I will always carry with me, helping me a lot on and off the field. It had me raise the standard for myself in everything I wanted to accomplish,” he explained.

The men’s outdoor team experienced one of the best seasons in program history. They claimed the OCAA silver medal for the first time since 2007 and qualified for their first ever CCAA National Championship. Eighth-year head coach John Williams knows Alvarado will be a perfect addition for this season, especially playing one of the most critical positions.

"The return of Jason will be a great addition for our team heading into this season," eighth-year head coach, John Williams explained. "He will bring more stability to the midfielder group, and his experience with us in the past with only be an asset moving forward. He's a former OCAA second-team all-star, and whenever you can pencil that into your lineup, it's huge."

Alvarado will be enrolled in the Construction Management program come the fall. He’s ready to help the Huskies build off their impressive 2021 campaign.

“I watched the match that got the team into the CCAA National Championship. It was a great moment for the program,” he explained. “My expectations for myself mainly is just to bring the quality that I know I am capable of to help this great program. As for team expectations, it's such a short and unpredictable season that anything can happen. I'm sure the returning players have high expectations, and they can count on me to help them achieve the best possible outcome we can get for this coming season. But only time will tell."
