MAY STEPS DOWN FROM MEN'S VOLLEYBALL PROGRAM

The George Brown Huskies announce that Men's Volleyball head coach, Garrett May, will not be commanding the bench once the OCAA returns from the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. The former OCAA Coach of the Year is stepping away from the program after four impactful seasons at the helm.

"Being a part of the Huskies program has been a fantastic experience all around for me. I got the chance to learn and grow as a younger leader as well as build relationships with a lot of great people", said May of his time with George Brown. "When I started, I set out to build an environment that everyone felt welcomed and enjoyed being a part of. Reflecting back, I believe we accomplished that goal."

May was a spark plug and a key catalyst to propelling the Huskies program to being one of the tougher competitors in the East Division as soon as he took over in the Fall of 2016. He brought a renewed sense of competitiveness, drive for greatness and high-octane style of play. Over his coaching career, he led the program to a 42-30 regular season record.

May's teams qualified for the OCAA Championship tournament in two of his four seasons, while finishing 2-2 in crossover qualifying matches. His best season came in 2017-2018, when the Huskies posted the second-best record in the East Division at 13-5. Thanks to those efforts May was named OCAA Men's Volleyball East Division Coach of the Year while the Huskies went on to finish sixth overall in the OCAA, the best result for the program in the last 10 years.

"Garrett was a tremendous addition to our program when he joined us in 2016", said Manager of Athletics & Recreation Melanie Gerin-Lajoie. "As soon as I met him in our first interview I knew that not only did he have an impressive volleyball pedigree behind him, but that he was a passionate young coach who would bring a new style of play, new intensity, and build a strong culture of camaraderie around our Men's Volleyball program. I'm sad to see him step down, but we are fully supportive of his decision and look forward to him staying connected as a member of our Huskies Alumni community."

A sentiment May echoes as well. "I hope to continue to be a part of the alumni family to help continue the tradition we have started. Thank you to all my former athletes, coaches, and admin colleagues for a wonderful time as part of the Husky family."
