HUSKIES FALL TO WOLVES AT HOME

Huskies #10 Cynthia Pellegrino shields the ball against Algonquin Wolves player

George Brown Women's Soccer (2-2-2) played with grit on Friday night (Sept 30), but the Algonquin Wolves (4-1-1) mounting pressure as the game wore on lead them to a final 4-1 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies demonstrated a strong and organized defensive presence in the first half of the match, closing down passing lanes and pressuring the ball consistently. The teams shared equal ball possession, and while the Wolves managed to get off five shots on goal, rookie goalkeeper Victoria Broomer made easy work of them collecting five saves.

In the 24th minute, George Brown's Cynthia Pellegrino (5th Year) was taken down from behind inside the 18-yard box, leading to a Huskies penalty kick which she would convert herself and put her team up 1-0. That shot on goal would prove to be the only one however that they would get off for the rest of the match.

Coming out of the locker room in the 2nd half, Algonquin ramped up the pressure and most of the action remained in the Huskies defensive end for the remainder of the night. The Huskies would stall a number of Wolves through-balls and attemps at goal, but eventually the visiting team connected on a near-offside pass from Kayla DaSilva to Jordan Blades-McHenr that got behind the defence to tie the game up at 1-1.

From there the Wolves would keep peppering the goal, registering 17 shots, 13 of which were on target. Broomer made 14 saves on the evening, but Algonquin extended their lead in the 74th, 80th and 84th minutes to take the game by a final score of 4-1.

UP NEXT: George Brown is right back at it tomorrow, Saturday October 1st, when they take on the St. Lawrence Surge (1-5) in the second game of a back to back.
