WOMEN'S SOCCER ADDS THOMPSON

WOMEN'S SOCCER ADDS THOMPSON

The Huskies women's soccer program is pleased to announce the commitment of Katie Thompson for the upcoming season.

"When I officially committed to be a George Brown Husky, I was really excited. It felt like a significant milestone in my soccer career, and I was thrilled to be working with Coach Dave again," she explained. "I decided to commit to George Brown college because of its strong soccer program and excellent coaching staff."

Thompson, who developed her skills in the North Toronto Soccer Club under the guidance of head coach Dave Kelly, is expected to make a significant impact in the OCAA, according to Coach Kelly, who is now in his second year with the Huskies.

"Katie will bring a steady and professional approach to the group. Having worked with Katie beforehand at U16 and U18 level during our time at North Toronto, she's someone who reads the game well, good on the ball and shows good composure," Kelly said. "As we are looking to bring in a new calibre of player to the Women's Program, Katie brings League1 Ontario experience and experience of competing and winning trophies at the highest youth level in Ontario."

The Toronto, Ont., native is currently enrolled in the Sport & Event Marketing Post-Graduate program. She is ready for the challenges that comes with being a student-athlete.

"During my time at George Brown, I hope to excel both on the field and in the classroom. On the field, I aim to contribute to the team's success and improve my skills. In the classroom, I hope to gain a deep understanding, and develop the competencies needed for a successful career in the sport marketing industry," she said.

Kelly believes that Katie will contribute several important qualities to the team.

"Katie brings a calm experience, a cool head and she has a clear understanding of the environment and culture we will build to achieve both short and long term success to the Women's Soccer program. Katie primarily plays full back but is also more than cable of playing centre back depending on our teams needs and system," he stated. "Most importantly Katie will fit perfectly with our core group of returning players and their personalities and help build upon the foundations that were laid last year."
