ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Badminton player Ace Zeng capped off his George Brown Huskies career by claiming the bronze medal in Men's Singles at the CCAA National Badminton Championships on Saturday afternoon at NAIT College in Edmonton, Alta. For that, he was named Huskies Athlete of the Week for the period ending March 20th.

In his third trip to the national stage, he took down Narayan Ramdhani of King’s University 2-0 (21-17, 21-11) to earn his second career medal there. He also won conference team supremacy gold as part of Team OCAA.

Before the tournament began, the fourth-year player was named a CCAA All-Canadian for the second time in his career. Right from the get-go, Zeng displayed why he was the 2022 OCAA Men’s Badminton Player of the Year by finishing first in the pool going 4-1. He had an epic match with the eventual gold medal winner Smit Patel of NAIT College in the semifinals. The battle went to a third set, and Zeng fell just short, dropping a 2-1 (21-23, 21-17, 19-21) decision.

He wraps up his stellar Huskies career with one national bronze and silver medal, two provincial gold medals, one provincial silver medal all of which came in Men’s Singles and a two-time OCAA Men’s Player of the Year.
