SIX HUSKIES OFF TO SEMIFINALS AT PROVINCIALS

After round-robin play, six Huskies have advanced to the semifinals at the OCAA Badminton Provincial Championships at Epic Sports Badminton Club in Toronto from Mar. 3-5.

In Men’s Singles, 2018 CCAA silver medalist Ace Zeng went undefeated, 4-0, in round-robin play to claim the top seed in Pool A. As a result, the fourth-year player earned a bye into the semifinals tomorrow. He looks to capture his third OCAA medal and qualify for his third career CCAA National championships.

Fellow Husky Sarthak Arora finished second in Pool B after going 3-1 in round-robin action. He defeated Humber’s Ben Houle in straight-sets 21-13, 21-6 to advance to the next round in the quarter-finals. Tomorrow morning, Arora will face off against Zeng in the semifinals with a berth in the gold medal match and CCAA National Championships on the line.

Women's Doubles partners Sienna Taylor and Patricia Gazmen earned a spot in the semifinals as well. They will battle the top-seeded Humber squad for a spot in the gold medal match

Riddhi Sampat came up just short in her attempt to get into the playoffs. She finished fifth in the Pool, going 1-4.

In Mixed Doubles, the Husky pair of Amiel Dela Rosa and Fiona Kwan punched their ticket to the semifinals as well. The team went 2-2 in round-robin play and will battle the team from Boreal in the semifinals.

Men’s Doubles of Jerick Rodriguez and Jean Wesley Manalang missed the cut by going 1-5.
