ZENG LOOKING FOR GOLD AT NATIONALS

Huskies badminton player Ace Zeng will attempt to claim the gold medal in Men's Singles at the 2022 CCAA Badminton National Championships this week in Edmonton, Alta., at NAIT College.

The fourth-year player booked a spot in his third career CCAA National Championships. In his two previous trips to the Nationals, he claimed the silver medal in 2018 and a fourth-place finish in 2019. Although disappointed in not winning the gold medal in either trip to the Nationals, he’s focused and ready to go for gold.

“My goal is to win CCAA gold medal in Men’s Singles and end my Huskies career with that," he explained.

Zeng is coming off an awe-inspiring performance at the OCAA Badminton Championships a couple of weeks ago. He captured his second career OCAA gold medal in Men’s Singles after defeating Seneca’s Kunal Sokar in the finals.

Going undefeated (4-0) in group play earned Zeng a bye to the semifinals on Day 1 of the OCAA Championships. Then, in an epic back-and-forth semifinal match against fellow Husky, Sartha Arora, the 2018 OCAA Badminton Player of the Year, came away with a 21-16, 21-16 victory to advance to the final. Zeng impressively didn’t drop a single set throughout the entire provincial championship. His play also helped the Huskies tie the Seneca Sting for the Men’s team title.

He will play five round-robin matches the next two days. Keep up to date with his journey by clicking here.
