HUSKIES BADMINTON IN KITCHENER FOR PROVINCIALS

HUSKIES BADMINTON IN KITCHENER FOR PROVINCIALS

The George Brown Huskies badminton team is looking to continue their dominant season into the Provincial Championship at Conestoga College this week. Five Huskies are pencilled in for various disciplines, and the women are in search of their third straight team title.

Women's Singles

Throughout the entire season Huyen Le and Anh Hoang have walked through all competition, and it was no different at Regionals. The two juggernauts took down all comers and lined themselves up in the final. Le got the upper hand against the defending champion Hoang to grab the gold medal. The two women will attempt to duplicate that success in Kitchener, Ont. Le has yet to drop a set let alone a game the entire season, while Hoang has only lost to her fellow Husky teammate.

Men's Singles

Areej Shalwani earned his first medal in the best way possible, by winning gold at Regionals a few weeks ago. The third-year Mechanical Engineering student only lost one set on his way to the title. He is peaking at the right time, going 8-1 in his last two tournaments.

Women's Doubles

The pair of Diana Bosco and Fiona Kwan advanced to Provincials after a bronze medal performance at Regionals. The team was very resilient at Georgian College, after going 1-2 on Day 1 they bounced back winning both of their matches on Day 2 to get a chance in Kitchener, Ont.. Bosco and Kwan's chemistry is only getting better heading into this tournament.
