The nationally ranked #5 Huskies have been one of the most dominant programs in recent years, winning consecutive OCAA provincial titles and taking home CCAA national medals. Based on how the season has unfolded so far, it does not look like the team is slowing down.

The unit contains several veterans, but also a few newcomers looking to make an impact in the OCAA East Regional Championship at Georgian College this weekend (Friday, January 31st - Saturday, February 1st).

Singles Action

A perfect example of this is Huyen Le. The first-year student has been an absolute wrecking ball. Coming into the tournament, she has captured two golds in Women’s Singles in the two OCAA Invitationals in which she participated, alongside a gold and silver in Women's Doubles play. An utterly dominant season campaign to date that she will attempt to replicate at Georgian College.

But do not forget about the veteran, Anh Hoang. Throughout her career, the Vietnam native has been the definition of dominance and consistency. Her resume is very extensive, which includes a pair of provincial gold medals and being named an OCAA All-Star in back-to-back years. Last year at CCAA nationals, Hoang won the silver medal in Women’s Singles.

In Men’s Singles, the Huskies will rely on a few newcomers. Areej Shalwani is coming off his best tournament of the season where the third-year Mechanical Engineering student orchestrated a great run before dropping a close semi-final decision (21-19, 21-16) to the eventual Centennial Invitational champion. First-year player Chang Li will be making his Regionals debut in the discipline. 

Doubles Action

For the doubles discipline, second-year Diana Bosco and first-year Fiona Kwan get the nod for the women’s side, while fourth-year veteran Yang Jin and first-year Rya Buth will go for the men.

Bosco will be relied upon to lead her rookie partner, taking advantage of the experience gained in making the quarterfinals at last year’s Regional Championship with then-partner Amy Ding.
