HUSKIES CLAIM BRONZE MEDAL

HUSKIES CLAIM BRONZE MEDAL

The George Brown Huskies Men's Indoor Soccer team earned a bronze medal after beating the Fanshawe Falcons 4-1 at the OCAA Provincial Championships on Friday (Mar. 8) afternoon at the Ontario Soccer Centre.

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Huskies began the day battling the Congesota Condors in the semi-finals. The match remained scoreless until the final two minutes. Within 20 seconds, the Condors converted two goals with a man advantage. Although Mattias Broomer narrowed the deficit shortly after, the Huskies ultimately fell short with a 2-1 defeat.

In the bronze medal match, the Huskies dictated the tempo of the game. Their persistence paid off when Alizar Lila narrowly slipped past the goalkeeper with three minutes remaining in the first half, giving them a 1-0 lead.

Midway through the second half, Filipe Assis displayed a remarkable solo effort, going end-to-end and sniping the top corner to extend the lead. While the Falcons narrowed the gap with three minutes to spare, Mark Do Coito secured the victory by scoring two goals in around a minute, sealing the deal for the Huskies.

It marked the sixth medal for the program in the last eight seasons.
