2023-24 NOMINEES: COACH OF THE YEAR

The department will highlight the nominees of the Huskies major awards - Team of the Year, Coach of the Year, Female Rookie of the Year, Male Rookie of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, and Male Athlete of the Year - during the week leading up to the 54th Annual George Brown College Athletic Awards on Friday April 5th at the Glenn Gould Studio.

Here are the nominees for the 2023-24 Coach of the Year.


Will Schram, Badminton
The coach continued his outstanding run with the program being named the OCAA Badminton East Division Coach of the Year. Under his guidance, the Huskies excelled this season, capturing a CCAA National silver medal and an OCAA gold medal in women’s doubles. Additionally, they secured qualification in three out of five disciplines at the OCAA Provincial Championships. Monique Lee, a standout player, claimed the prestigious OCAA Player of the Year award, while four others received recognition with East Regional All-Star honors


Luke Sim, Men’s Volleyball
In his second year as Interim Head Coach, Luke Sim's leadership and expertise proved invaluable to the team, earning him the title of OCAA East Division Coach of the Year. Under his guidance, the Huskies improved their win count by eight from the previous year, ending with an impressive 11-7 record and securing fourth place in the division, and hosting a crossover playoff match for the first time since 2018. George Brown showcased their strength by ranking among the top eight in the OCAA in several key metrics, including kills per set, total attacks, hitting percentage, and assists per set. The team achieved this successful season with a youthful roster, with 14 out of the 16 players in their first or second year of eligibility.


John Williams, Men’s Soccer
The head coach led the team to successful programs both in outdoor and indoor. In the fall, the Huskies ran the table with a perfect 10-0 record to win the East Division crown, scoring a league-high 62 goals, while allowed the fewest against with four. This run led to the first time in his nine-year tenure with the program, being named OCAA Coach of the Year for the first time in his career, plus he is a nominee for CCAA Coach of the Year. The team went on to host the Provincial Championship and finishing fourth in the process.

They carried the momentum into the indoor season. The team finished first in their pool at Regionals and went on to claim the bronze at the OCAA Provincial Championships. It marked the sixth medal for the program in the last eight seasons.


Omari Wiltshire, Women’s Basketball
Under Wiltshire's guidance, the women’s basketball program underwent a significant transformation this season, improving from a 3-11 record to 8-6 clinching third place in the East Division. George Brown showcased dominance across various statistical categories in the OCAA, including points per game and shooting percentages. They also clinched a home playoff game and win for the first time since 2020. Wiltshire's efforts earned him the OCAA East Division Coach of the Year title for the first time in his career.
