HUSKIES DEFENCE TOO MUCH FOR VIKINGS

Huskies Tai Bent shoots free throw

The Huskies Women's Basketball team had their high energy pressure defence (aka CHAOS) on point today at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre.

The home team forced the visiting St. Lawrence College Vikings into 34 turnovers, registering 25 steals on the afternoon, on route to a 87-62 victory. Leading that defensive effort were rookie Kayana Granger who registered nine steals, and second-year transfer Victoria Lawrence who had six of her own.

The first quarter was a back and forth affair with the Huskies holding only a slight one point advantage after 10 minutes, leading 15-14. However, they found their offensive flow in the second and stepped up the intensity, pulling away to a 46-25 half time lead. Ciara Findlayter-Stephenson of the Huskies lead the way with 16 points in the half.

The second half would prove to be much of the same, with George Brown maintaining both their defensive pressure and offensive effectiveness, leading to a consistent 20-point lead for the remainder of the contest. Findlayter-Stephenson would finish the game with 22 points and six rebounds, while Zae Sellers contributed 19 points and continued to spread the ball around exceptionally well, logging nine assists. Victoria Lawrence rounded out the bulk of the Huskies scoring with 18 points in addition to her seven rebounds and six steals.

With a short bench due to injury, Head Coach Warren Williams was pleased with the way the rest of the group came together. "We had several players step up in the absence of two starters and our leaders did a terrific job of guiding the team through the adversity.", said Williams post-game. "We are still working towards playing all four quarters within the tenets of our Husky Way and continuing to establish our CHAOS identity, but we are pleased with the direction of the team."

George Brown also came out on top the day prior versus the Loyalist Lancers, running away with another large victory, 65-43. Lawrence and Sellers each recorded 20 points in the win, and the Huskies' regular season record now stands at 6-1.

Up next, the team will prepare for a tough battle against the undefeated Algonquin College Thunder (7-0, 1st in the East) on Saturday November 30th in Ottawa for the last game of the Fall semester. Catch the action on OCAA Live by visiting our LiveStream Page!
