HUSKIES SPLIT WITH THE FALCONS

Huskies #23 tags out Fanshawe player sliding

Huskies Men's Baseball played host to the Fanshawe Falcons (9-5) on Sunday October 2, 2022 at Christie Pits Park in Toronto. The Huskies took the first game while Fanshawe took the second of the double header. This was also a special afternoon for the Huskies, who celebrated four graduating players before the game. See full bios of the graduating athletes at the end of the article.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM1: Hayden Wesseling (2nd Year) got called to the mound for the Huskies, he entered the game after a tough outing against Humber in his last appearance. In his six and one-third inning of work, Wesseling struck out two batters, allowing three earned runs on six hits with just one walk.  He was relieved by Gregory Hall (5th Year) late in the ball game, who would allow just one hit, one walk and one earned run after seeing just four batters to give the Huskies the 6-4 win.

The Huskies got on the board in the bottom of the first inning when Carlos Acosta (2nd Year) singled, scoring Brendan Nolet (1st Year) giving the Huskies an early 1-0 lead. George Brown continued to build on that lead throughout the game, including scoring three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning, giving them a 6-1 lead. Fanshawe would add three more runs in the bottom of the seventh in hopes of a comeback, but fell short to a 6-4 final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED | GM 2: In game two of the double header, Huskies Michael Guardiero (2nd Year) got the start after a successful outing against Sault College Cougars a few weeks earlier. In his 2 2⁄3 innings pitched, Guardiero allowed four hits giving up just one earned run that came in the top of the third inning, giving Fanshawe an early 1-0 lead. After going 2.2 innings, Guardiero was then replaced by Nathan Long (1st Year) who in 2 2⁄3 innings of pitching had three strike outs giving up six earned runs on nine hits. Brady Wagenhoffer (2nd Year) was then called in to relieve Long allowing one walk while facing six batters.

In the top of the fifth, Fanshawe scored again to go up 2-0. In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Huskies bats came alive when Christopher Peters (1st Year) singled scoring Tyler Romandel (2nd Year) to put the Huskies on the tally sheet. Brady Wagenhoffer (2nd Year) flew out to right filed which scored Noah Macdonald (1st Year) and advancing Christopher Peters (1st Year) to third who would eventually score, giving the Huskies a 3-2 lead. In the top of the sixth, Fanshawe added four runs giving them a 7-3 advantage entering the final inning. With the bases loaded, Huskies Jaret Lupton (1st Year) was able to force a walk to bring home Noah Macdonald (1st Year), but that is as close as the Huskies would get, making the final score 7-4 in favour of Fanshawe.

UP NEXT: Huskies are back in action again on Friday October 7, 2022 as they take on the Centennial Colts (9-3) who have won eight straight games. Can't make the game? Watch us live on our Livestream Channel!
