HUSKIES ADVANCE TO PROVINCIAL QUARTER-FINALS

The George Brown Huskies men's basketball team is off to Sarnia for the OCAA Provincial Championship after defeating the Niagara Knights 91-80 at Casa Loma Athletic Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Notable Stats: Naseem Barry led the way for the Huskies with a game-high 19 points, 13 rebounds, two steals and two blocks.

The backcourt for George Brown was magnificent. Haany Ahmed posted 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds, three steals and a block, while Chris Field recorded 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and five steals in the victory.

How it Happened: The Huskies were firing on all cylinders early on as they shot around 50% from the field to take a 38-28 lead into halftime. George Brown was able to hold off the Knights the rest of the way, especially in the fourth quarter. The team shot a combined 63% for 31 points in the frame to advanced to the Final Eight.

First-year head coach Jason Dawkins enjoyed what he saw from his team.

"The thing I am most proud of is throughout the game we played team basketball. We moved the ball, we did not allow guys to catch and shoot," he stated. "We did a lot of stuff that we have to clean up but overall I like to see us continue to lock in and do what we need to do to continue to be successful in the future."

The Huskies will travel to Sarnia, Ont., next week to take part in Provincial Championships. Their first-round opponent is the host team Lambton College and coach Dawkins wants his team to continue what they have been doing this past year.

"Lambton is going to be ready to go. We have already played them twice this season. I think they are a strong team, especially in front of their home crowd," the coach explained. "I think this week in practice we are going to focus on us, continue to stay together, lock into our roles and play George Brown basketball. Hopefully, it all works out because we are going to play a good team and the best team is going to win this game."

All the action happens on Friday, March 6th at 8:00pm at Lambton College.
