HUSKIES EXTEND WINNING-STREAK TO DOUBLE-DIGITS

HUSKIES EXTEND WINNING-STREAK TO DOUBLE-DIGITS

The George Brown College men's basketball team extended their winning streak to 10 games with a 92-84 win over the Centennial Colts on Friday night at the Casa Loma Athletic Centre.

Notable Stats: Third-year guard Haany Ahmed dropped a team-high 20 points and added seven assists, while first-year forward Derrick Taylor recorded a double-double of 16 points and 13 rebounds.

Fifth-year forward Kingslee D'Silva chipped in with 15 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

The Colts were led by Dieu Merci Betoukoumessou who posted a game-high 23 points and nine rebounds.

George Brown's energy was a major factor in this contest. They generated 17 second-chance points compared to Centennial's two. First-year head coach Jason Dawkins knows it stemmed from hard work and defensive energy.

"The identity of our team is keeping your man in front of you, own your man, help, rebound, finish possessions and from there we move on. That leads to turnovers and opportunities for us to capitalize on."

How It Happened: The Huskies offence stalled for the first part of the opening quarter finding itself in a 17-7 hole, but then kicked it up a notch. They generated a 15-1 run to end the quarter up 22-18. The depth of George Brown was on full display as seven different players made a basket in the opening half. The home side led 41-37 at the break.

The Colts came out of the half with more energy tying the contest at 50-50 early in the third quarter. The Huskies responded putting together a 10-0 run to gain some space on their opponents. They used that momentum to head into the fourth quarter up 67-60.

There was no quit in Centennial no matter the score. Even with the Huskies up 81-71 in the final three and a half minutes, the Colts rallied off a 13-4 run to cut the deficit to only two. George Brown though made sure to never surrender the lead the rest of the way, coming away with a 92-84 victory

The Huskies will hit the road to battle the Fleming Knights next Friday night, January 17th, in search of their 11th straight win. All the action begins at 7 pm.
