Friday January 31 vs Algonquin
Huskies Men's Basketball continued to build on their league leading winning streak last weekend and now sit at 15-1 on the regular season after blowout victories over Algonquin (3-12, 10th in East) and La Cite (7-8, 6th in East).
On Friday night George Brown welcomed the Algonquin Thunder to Casa Loma Athletic Centre for the two teams' second meeting of the regular season. In the first contest in Ottawa, George Brown cruised to a 105-66 win on the road; a similar fate would meet the Thunder in Toronto.
The first quarter saw the Huskies jump out to an early 29-12 advantage, off of 67% shooting from the floor, and the home team never looked back. All starters hit the scoresheet in the quarter, with Naseem Barry leading the way with eight points in the frame. By halftime, the George Brown lead grew to 56-24.
Coming out of the half, Algonquin would find its shooting touch, connecting on 46% of their shots behind 10 points from Zerious Loney. Their 21 point output was outmatched however by an even more dominant Huskies squad, who themselves tallied 36 points on 54.5% shooting.
Forced turnovers and second chance points were key in the Huskies victory, with Algonquin turning the ball over 25 times and George Brown converting those turnovers into 30 points. Seven Husky players hit double digits in the 121-57 runaway win.
Saturday February 1 vs La Cite
Saturday proved to be much of the same affair, with George Brown taking the game over La Cite with a final of 97-59. The first quarter was an evenly matched one with the Huskies holding a slight 26-23 advantage, but La Cite's offense stalled in the second where they shot only 26% from the floor. George Brown took full advantage and pulled away to 51-34 halftime lead.
While a more evenly matched third quarter had the Huskies outscore the Coyotes only 19-14, it was inconsistency from La Cite that proved to be their main downfall as they were then outscored again by a large margin of 27-11 to close out the game in the fourth.
Kingslee D'Silva led the way for the Huskies logging 17 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. The fifth-year senior continues to be a consistent, imposing presence on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor this season.
Next up, George Brown looks to keep its incredible winning streak alive as they travel to Kingston and Belleville for a two-game road trip against the St Lawrence Vikings and Loyalist Lancers on February 7-8th. Watch all the action on our LiveStream page!
