MAC-FUNG COMMITS TO WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

MAC-FUNG COMMITS TO WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

The George Brown Huskies women's volleyball team is pleased to announce Kaitlyn Mac-Fung's commitment to play for the program beginning in the 2024-2025 season.

"Kaitlyn brings to the Huskies program the type of attitude and style of play that we're most known for - in fact, she draws similarities to pivotal athletes from our recent past, is quick on her feet, knows the game well, and has a mean swing," head coach Daphne Choi explained. "We're excited to have her join the program as we continue to build a culture of family and performance. She joined us in our gym ahead of a commitment, and we were happy that she was able to easily merge into the dynamic the existing team had. She also has existing ties to athletes on our team."

Mac-Fung offers great versatility since she has experience playing both libero and left-side outside hitter. The Markham, Ont. native played with Unity Volleyball for the last couple of seasons and earned the OVA 2021 Award of Excellence. She is excited to start the next part of her journey with the Huskies.

"At first, I didn't even really realize that I had become a Husky, but once I began to process it, all I felt was excitement. And I still am excited," Mac-Fung said. "I truly believe that George Brown is where I am going to thrive the most, whether it's with my major, community or my sport."

Mac-Fung will enroll in the Carpentry and Renovation Technician program. In September, she's ready to take on all challenges on and off the court.

"One of the biggest factors in choosing a college is that I am very hands-on and won't get that at an University. All I want is to have fun while I'm here. I want to become a great carpenter, and I want to become a great volleyball player. I want to make life-long friendships and enjoy life," she explained.

The women's volleyball program has enjoyed success in recent years, including five consecutive appearances in the OCAA playoffs. Their standout season was in 2022-23, where they achieved a record of 12-6.
