ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

Huyen Le (Badminton)

Huyen Le capped off her historic season winning the gold medal in Women’s Singles at the CCAA National Badminton Championships at UTM. Le's performance was only the second time the Huskies won a National Championship banner in the program's 50 plus year history.

The first-year standout took down the 2020 CCAA Women’s Badminton Player of the Year, Takeisha Wang in a three-set nail-biter, 2-1 (17-21, 21-16, 21-17). It marked the only time Le lost a set to an opponent the entire season.

The Vietnam native won all five of her round-robin matches to earn the top seed heading into playoffs. She bounced Olds College’s Priyanna Ramdhani in the semi-finals to advance and eventually take home gold. Le finished off her campaign going undefeated and only dropping one game in the process.

Kingslee D’Silva (Men’s Basketball)

Kingslee D’Silva averaged 13.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.6 blocks in three games to help the men’s basketball program capture their first OCAA Provincial title since 1976. Thanks to his stellar performances throughout the tournament, the forward was named Championship MVP.

After being named an OCAA East Division First-Team All-Star, the forward kept rolling in the quarter-finals. In front of a sold-out crowd and against the host team Lambton College, he recorded a double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds in an 82-65 victory on Friday night. After the Huskies advanced to the finals with a close 79-76 win over Redeemer College, D’Silva had arguable the best game of his career. He led the Huskies with a game-high 20 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks to create a historical moment for the men's basketball program.
